how long do you cold shock for? and do i just stick the jars in the fridge then birth after they have been shocked?

8-24 hours i hear of. i used 12 hours and it worked well on one cake, the other took almost 4 more days.

took 4 more days for what? to pin?
do you feel the cold shocking gave you a better pin set than normal?

there is no normal. these were my first 2 cakes. 1 pinned the next day this one pinned 4 days later. the pinset on the first cake was mostly in one area of teh cake right on the side, and eventually the only 4 shrooms grew from that 1 point. the other later cake has 4 good pins right now the largest being about 1.5 inches or so long. these are more spread out but only 1 is on one side and 3 are on teh other if you look fron the top down. ill have pics this weekend in mushroom pix when i give the camera back to mike to load on his comp. (its his cam i borrowed last night)

A friend has some fully colonized pf tek cakes and some rye cased with alfalfa and potting soil. They are pf, pf hawaiian, and pf mazatec varieties. They all have been sitting individually in consistantly humid (can see condensation)three gallon containers with filtered holes for air exchange for about 6 days and they are not seeing any pinning. They're going to be put in the fridge for the evening (Friday nov 30) on advice from DaBeerLover. I'll let you know about my results and I would be interested in your results as well. Thank you.

i cold shocked some fully colonized pf jars wed night of last week (a week ago tomm.)i birthed them and put in the grow room on thursday, but nothing is happening, no pinning or nothing!
two of the cakes already had some invitro pinning and those aren't even doing anything.
whats wrong!!!

Probably nothing. Just wait a little longer. I've had many of my cakes take a week or more before I saw any activity. I use cold shocking, and do believe it helped with my ecuadors. The first batch took FOREVER to pin, and my current (cold shocked 24 hours) batch are pinning nicely 3 days after birth. I don't cold shock all my cakes, just the ones I expect to have trouble with. It probably wouldn't hurt to cold shock them all, but it can get a little tough trying to hide/explain those strange looking jars I always have in the fridge.
