Puffballs
    #4733015 - 09/29/05 08:13 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I found a bunch of white clusters of them all over my lawn. The largest ones are about an inch or less in diameter. They bare very white and bruise yellowish green. Some even look a bit ...scaly(?). I wish I had a camera to take pics. I find lots of unique fungi in my yard. Shaggy manes, parasols, mica caps, cup fungi, slime molds, pans, etc.

...Does anyone know of a site where I can I.D. my puffballs?

here is a picture of a giant puffball I found today:

If they are a little scaley they could be one of many different kinds of puffballs. Some puffballs can get huge while others, tend to be very small.

Ya those puffballs grow in the cowfields too and sometimes you can catch them contracting blowin out smoke from the top like some type of Dr. Seuss sea-anenomi. I can never resist squeezing them when I spot one---they always give me a face full of spores which sux but they are so much fun to play with.
