Easy Thermostat
    #4697760 - 09/22/05 10:06 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

Does anyone know of a small thermostat that i could put on my incubator to make an incadescnet light snap on whenever the temp goes below 85 and snap off when it reaches 85? I have no knowledge about this sort of thing but any help would be appreciated, thanks

You can use a regular house thermostat for this, they're just on/off switches based on temperature.

Just pick one up at the hardware store then wire it inline, that is, between the lightbulb and the wall plug.

i got one on ebay called Zoo-Med Repti-temp. Designed for reptile terrariums. it was about $10. you can just plug any heating element into it.

The rheostat rep-temp will not turn your heating elements off if it becomes to hot or on if it becomes to cold but it does look simple, so what exactly would be very cheap and easy to use that i could use which what turn the heat on or off, i beleive thermostats are very expensive, but all i want is something that will turn an incadescent light on when the temp goes below 85 and off when it goes above

from the way i understand it... you don't want light in your incubator. light is a pinning trigger and tells the myc to fruit prematurely when it should be spending it's energy trying to colonize the jar.

but if the container is opaque and the light is just warming up the outside of it, it shouldnt hurt at all. if u find out about a cheap thermostat setup, please post it. ive been thinking about something like this too

OK the RHEOTSTAT DOES NOT turn heat off if it gets to hot, im pretty sure all it does is dim appliances and you manualy have to turn it off if it gets to hot or cold, and the temperature in my room fluctuates hence i need something easier, on Mushroom cultivation 2003 video i found that they said they use an incadescent light connected to a thermostat, im asking which thermostat do i need and how much money?
