Using viels for spoore

Well I am sitting here looking at all these Georges shroomies growing and trying to figure out just exactly how they work. Well observing is more of the word but I have noticed that Right before the veil breaks the spoors start doping hence why it starts turning black even on the out side, Well I was wondering If you waited till the veil drops and is still fresh could you make syringes off of that?

YEah I thought so too! =D I am in the middle of my first harvest but ive been siting at home keeping a close eye on them and im learning ALOT! I just watched them for the last 10 minus while I watched the last 1/4 of the veil drop. These guys are TRIPPY!!!!

Wel im going to put it to the test. this will be my first atempt at a syringe. I got the old b+ that they came in and im about to put this and a mason jar in the PC and PC for a bit now im moving and I dont have a glove box But I do Have my terrarium, IM hoping if I use the rest of this oust in my house I could do a quick transfer.... We will see how it goes.

i have never noticed any spores dropping before or while the veil is breaking. ime sporulation doesn't start until the caps are just about flattened out.
yeah the parts of the veil still present can get spores on it and i guess you could mix them into some water.

Well I guess cuss my shit is vibraing a little it might be dropping sooner but I mean that Viel is black as black can be and it looks like a print IMO. But im still fresh to the game

Im also gonna try it. Snip the veils, let them drop into a clean container, inject water, stir with syringe needle, and suck it up.Hmmmm....

Allright so here is what ive come up with so far. I thought the jar broke in the PC so I stoped i half way through but continued like I would have. My conditions ae the worst right now and it amazes me that I have had no contamed casing as well. Well he film cantanister I was using melted so that made it dificult, there was water leaking form the syring since the needle wasnt on itght enugh and blah blah blah but I did make one and from what I can see it looks like there are indeed spoors in there. When sucking the water back up thoe he viel cloged the tip making it difficult to fill the whole thing but I managed. I would suggest making alot more then you plan on using just so you can get moe waer. Think of it as the end of the cerial bowl, looks like theres no more honey bunches of oats left but you drink that milk and theres a whole nother spoon full at the bottom!!! yeah so im going to make a cake tonight to test it on and hopefully my sanitation streak last`s!

Actually, you can use a sterile syringe to inject sterilized water into the cap just before the veil begins to tear. Shake it around and draw it back out. It's one way to get a good sterile syringe of spores. There's always a few spores dropping before the veil tears, that's why it's always black the first time you see the inside of it.

HEheheh now thats good, shooting inside the cap with stril needle and water, sounds like a winne for me. How come more people dont do it that way?

Because its a pain in the ass. Just throw the cap on the bottom of a half pint for 24 hours, remove, fill with sterile water, and suck it up...and you have 20-25 syringes if you want. Instead of bothering with the little bit of water you can get in the cap and multiplying it. Not to say that it doesnt work and serve its purpose, but most people want syringes, and thats pretty much the easiest way to do it..other then maybe suspending it over the water in the 1/2 pint, or shot glass, then just sucking up the water. Same thing though. Any of it works, its all just what your more comfortable with.

A half pint wide mouth jar with some Post Office Tyvek replacing the lid works excellent for what Scat is talking about. This is how I make all my syringes now. :thumbup:

Psilocybe cubensis and many other mushroom species have a partial veil? a Thin layer of tissue extending from the cap margin To the stem. This veil can be an aid in The procurement of nearly contaminant-free spores. The veil seals the gill from the outside, creating a
semi-sterile chamber from which spores can be removed with little danger of contamination. By choosing a healthy, young specimen with the veil intact, and then by carefully removing the veil tissue under aseptic conditions, a nearly pure spore print is obtained. This is the ideal way to start a multispore culture.

So I take my mushroom with the veil still intact, put it in my glove box, wipe it down with some peroxide, cut the veil off and then set it on my paper/foil/glass for printing?

Yes, that is the best way to get a clean sterile print. Sometimes, you have to wait a bit longer for better spore production, but if you want clean..besides..you might think more healthy spores might be the first to be produced and dropped? Just speculation..eitherway, it works well usually.
