I heard that when he was playing at Woodstock he was greeted by ol' Uncle Sid 12 times (ie dosing on 12 bits of acid)
...could be just rumour though

Sid Barrett, shortly before going on stage crushed up the entire contents of a bottle of Mandrax tranquilizer tablets, mixing them with a large quantity of Brylcreem hair cream; he then placed the mixture on top of his head and as he played under the hot stage lights, the viscous mixture softened and began to ooze down his head, giving the appearance that his face was melting.

Brushing his teeth and patting his belly at the same time during recording sessions piss off the band. I beleive that was said by waters. Gilmore was the replacement, and though him and sid showed up to the sessions, syd got the point.
Also jimi hendrex probably didnt put acid in his head band.
Thats just not something a smart person does. NOr do I feel syd would make his face look like it was melting on stage, I doubt he was so interested in the face melting idea

None the less he ate the shit by himself way too often and I doubt that is the fault of his friends. The whole band wished he would stop doing that shit (to himself).
