problems with mycelium
    #465563 - 11/21/01 11:37 AM (22 years, 5 months ago)

it's the first time i'm trying to grow shroms. i inoculated a quart jar with rye berries the 2nd November (Ecuador strain). First signs of mycelium appeared 4 days after and since then it hasn't grown almost anything. I don't think it's lack of moisture because it has equal amounts of rye and water...and no signs of contamination either. what can the problem be?

well, at first i had it in an aquarium with a heater inside so the temp was around 80?. Then the heater cracked when i added water to the container where it was. the jar was 3 or 4 days at around 60? untill i got a new heater. maybe it was because of the temp variation. i'll try to make two smaller cultures to see if i can experiment shrooms for the new years party (where i live shrooms are really hard to get). Probably i'll have to trip on acid...

may be too moist. it does not need to be that wet at all. my last attempt at puerto ricans germinated in like 3 days and then stopped and after a week the little white myc that formed around the thistle seed disappeared due to too much moisture i believe.
