Ok, I know that you arent supposed to use heat to dry mushrooms, but people are still using the oven and lamps to dry them. Has anyone ever used a food dehydrator? I have never used one, period, I dont even know how hot they get. Can someone please advise me. Thanks in advance

I have just used dessicant to dry for the first time. I live in the Autralian subtropics and when shrooms are out humidity is high. Very difficukt to dry. this is by far the best method I have encountered. they are cracker dry in 2 days! Very economical as well. I used damp rid and a big plastic container. Next time I hve a big haul I will fill the chamber with co2 to stall oxidation. sorry about rambling. just excited. Brewin

I use a food dehydrator, however I have disconnected the heating filament. In the center of my D. I removed a cover. Inside was the filament with a bimetallic switch. I placed some electrical tape between the contacts so the heat never comes on. The D. has a fan that still runs though. My shrooms dry to sweet perfection! Joshua

You must have low relative humidity. A luxury I do not have. Enjoy Brewin

I'm in Oregon. The humidity is above %80 this time of year. It takes two days to dry, but when they're dry...they're dry. Joshua

An electric food dehydrator can be used but it must have a temperature control that you can manually adjust. I have recently found these in WalMart and they will work perfectly. If you set the dial to 95 degrees it will dry your shrooms without lowering their potency any more than if you dried them without heat. A food dehydrator that does not have a temperature control is usually factory set at 120 degrees, much to hot for drying, which will greatly decrease the potency of your shrooms (if not turn them to a powdery dust).

I'm finding that I need to finish drying w/ dessicant. It is raining now most of the time. The humidity is much higher. Joshua P.S. SporeDude, do you have a part # or model#?
