This sounds evil, but is now the time to buy real estate in New Orleans?

No.
The time to buy real estate in New Orleans [or almost anywhere] was yesterday...

yes it is the time if you want a good investment. Is it evil that our whole economy is going to boom now with all the reconstruction that will be required?

I thought about this like two days after the hurricane hit and forgot. Thanks for reminding me.
I'm sure it would be a good time to buy. I would imagine lots of people are going to want to get out of there, and would be willing to sell their land at a discount rate. Louisiana Purchase Part Deux.

In fact, you would actually be doing them a favor - they need you, so they can get the hell out of there. If you don't do it, someone else will. Nothing evil about that. It's all mutual arisings.

Interesting question. You'd probably have to know your stuff. I would think a lot of middle class families would return (although many won't). THe most plentiful land will probably be land that was cheap BEFORE the hurrican: the lower areas in the ghetto.

Buy up the ghetto and turn it into a shopping mecca. Leave the poor people to rumage through Texas.

But your home is liable to be swept away, without insurance, more than anything. And the majority of the board(I'm assuming early teens to mid twenties), does not wish to take the sort of multi-thousand dollar risk associated with nesting in New Orleans. Most of us are po' young folk. You dig?

Oh I do, I wouldn't personally move there. But lots of people would...
I'm talking hypothetically about buying land and then selling it in a few years

Just thought of all the foreclosures. I wonder if the banks are making exceptions since people can't work or get paid just yet. If not, there may be a LOAD of cheap property coming to auction soon.

Just turn the whole damn city into a giant laser tag arena. Underwater laser tag would be just as cool.
