whole grain questions
    #461526 - 11/17/01 04:18 PM (23 years, 6 months ago)

i've read that rye flour works faster than rice flour, and a friend has a fat sack of rye berries and was wondering if it could be ground into flour to be used. any ideas? would it still need to be pressure cooked once ground? pressure cooker hasn't arrived yet.
he also has millet, finch seed, and flax seed, anyone have experience grinding any of these and applying to vermiculite in mmgg style jars?
also, if using shaking methods, should the holes in the lids be sealed up, or will they stall before colonizing fully due to lack of oxygen?

use 3 parts rye berries 3 parts millet, 2 parts vermiculite and throw in some of the other stuff you have too if you think it'll help. why grind up the grains?? that just makes it all gooey and stick to the sides of the jars when you add water. having whole grains helps colonize faster because there's more space imbetween the kernels for mycelium to spread through. anyways, gdluck
