Grain questions?

I was thinking of using annos grain tek for both rye and millet. What is gypsum and where can I get it. Is there a substitute to gypsum if I cant find it? Is this a good tek? Best tek? I have rye, and millet from myco supply. I have read where you have to simmer, or soak the grain over night. Why is this not nessassary for this tek? :confused: Thanks a whole lot. :laugh:

You can get gypsum at craft stores, its sold as Plaster of Paris. I'm not sure of rye, but for millet its not really necessary. Soaking or simmering allows the grain to become saturated, which allows a moist environment for mycelium to thrive in. Good Luck, and if you want any good teks for millet, do a search for WBS tek.

WBS is mainly comprised of millet, both red and white, with some sunflower husks.  So you have WBS minus the sunflowers.  Its the same damn thing. :cool:

What do you mean?  I'm confused.  6T was the one who was posting it so much, I'm not sure if he developed it, I doubt it (no offense to 6T, but I think I remember him even saying it wasn't his tek)  But that's neither here nor there, the fact of the matter is its a good tek that works, try it and let us know how you do.  :wink:

I don`t think it was necessary to make a jar of each.
You still just have jars filled with grain.
It`s not like one method of preparing grain is any better than the next.
You`re just saturating the grain till it`s moisture content is right.
So how is one method going to improve colonisation times??
Unless ofcourse you screw up on the water content.

I've found gypsum isn't necessary as long as you shake the grain well while the jars are still very hot, otherwise it will stick to the bottom = bad

You can find gypsum at any homebrewing store. Its very cheap. Also, if you get desperate, you can bust a hole in your wall and grind up some wallboard...since its mainly gypsum too.
