Could my humidity guage be broken?
    #4595941 - 08/29/05 07:52 PM (12 years, 24 days ago)

Well here's my setup i have a 100 gal fish aquarium and i am using a heating pad hydroleca two bubble wands just setup less than an hour ago. My Humidity/temp guage is now reading at 84 degrees and 80% humidity but it has just stayed there the humidity guage just won't seem to rise above that but there is definitely signs that it must be higher than that because i am getting heavy drops of water forming all around the aquarium please tell me if you think the same.

I just started also I wondered the same thing I went thru 2 guage's mine would noy rise abouve 70% so I listed to all the people here and waited. There was water drops all over the sides and I could tell it was above 70% so I got rid of them the gauges and just let it go. Then one day there were pins and after a few more there were mushies.

wrecked cheapo humidity gauge on first grow and haven't used one since. The droplets on the side means there is enough moisture to condense on the cool walls. It also re-evaporates to maintain humidity. doubt there could be to much droplets on the sides, as long as it's not dripping on the cakes/casings.

There just is no such thing as a reliable humidity gauge...unless you spend some big bucks...I find that a sling psychrometer is the only way to go...of course...your terrarium is a little smaller than 2800 cubic feet, so...it won't be as convenient.

The droplets you see are simply condensation of any moisture on the inside because of the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the chamber causing the water to participate out of the atmosphere. Sounds like a cheap hygrometer possibly, the expensive ones become more accurate the higher the readings. A non sling psychrometer are fairly cheap and very accurate, if you can find them.

This was suppose to go to scatmanrav but somewhere between then and now he dialed in.
