Help me motivate for my exam
    #4592241 - 08/28/05 08:06 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

So, this coming week I have a physics exam from the previous year about dynamics, energy, inorganic chemistry... you know the usual stuff. Actually I don't find it too hard, but I would need to study more than what I'm doing now. Today I've studied for about 1-2 hours, and my plan was to study 8 hours a day! I just can't find how to motivate myself, I always end up doing house cleaning, posting here, and everything I can do to delay it.

So please, how did you guys pass thru this kind of thing? what did you do/think about to help you stay motivated? And if you have any ideas on how to go about it (like an hour studying, relax for half an hour, etc) please share it  I'd be most grateful.

:mushroom2: :sun:  :mushroom2:

last exam i had was in june... and it was history... germany history from 1815 to 2000 to be exact... and 8 days to the exam i still hadn't studyed one bit... so i ended up studying about 7 or 8 hours a day... it was hella hard to get motivated tho, so i can definitely feel you on this hehehe... one thing that helped me along was a friend of mine saying "ingo, if you flunk this exam i will never let you forget about it... and what is more, i will never let ANYONE YOU DATE forget about it either"... so yeah that made me realize how important the exam was and how stupid i would be if i would flunk it because of lack of dedication....

my tip is just sit down and do it... learn for 45 mins and take a 10 min break to post here... then go for another 45 mins and take 10 min break to do something... and then do the same thing and take a food break... try to take small breaks of 2 mins inbetween as well to get what you learned togehter and let it sink in... remember to stay well hydrated and eat a lot... using your brain takes a LOT of energy...

oh! and another thing... use same state learning... that means, whatever you use to learn or whatever state you are in to learn (cigarrettes, coffee, tea, etc.) try to be in the same state when you write the exam... it is proven that you will perform better that way... this means, if you drink coffee to learn, drink a cup before the exam... the same with cigarrettes (i know you dont smoke but you get the point) and so on...

good luck man!

why are u taking an exam from last year?

Beacuse when I had to take the final exam I got the news that my spiritual father had died, and I didn't have the energy to study after that. So I have to do it now, but this time is the entire year in one exam

Hey Deepman!

I too have an exam from the previous year about dynamics next week. Same problem. Had a long vacation and I need some time to get into concentration mode again. I also plan to study for 8hours, but I only study for 1-2. I do enjoy studying, but it requires more energy and concentration than other things and that is a bit hard after a long vacation. Go to the library in your city and sit there for 5-6hours. That is a lot. I works for me, I'm going to do that tomorrow.

Don't know what else you can do, you have to enjoy it... I don't know how to create motivation.

studying is overrated, thats what notecards and long sleeves are for.

plus, grades are not a measure of intelligence, only effort, some of the dumbest people i've met in my life had 4.0 gpa's.

I'm about to take a shower, prepare some meal, and go the library down the street. I'm a bit frustrated because I don't even know the date of the exam yet, but it should be the 1st of september
My plan is to enter there at 5PM at get out as they close  I hope I can maintain some concentration...

Well, what are you waiting for you un-hippie biatch?!?
You should go and later when we come back we can have a nice talk here, and share our frustrations man. That way we would be more motivated for sure :yesnod:

Ok... damn hippie. I'll go to the library in 10minutes. Good luck and have fun!

There will be enough frustrations later....  That sure is a good way to get motivation. And it is good to know that you are in the same F=ma shit  :smirk:

This is an old dynamics exam. The problems are fucking hard. Only 10-30% passes this exam... I've seen people try it for the 9th time and fail(we can retry exams as often as we want).

But it is possible... I CAN DO IT! Off to the library!

I never had to study too hard when it came to physics, it just came natural to me. It's really just a matter of remembering formulas. I find a trance state is best for processing and retaining memory. Concentration makes it happen.

I had no problems with physics in high school. That was easy as hell, but it is a bit different now. Not just remembering formulas.

yeah you're right.. that is pretty tough. not bad though.. I like those types of problem solving questions. I guess it makes it easier to learn things that you are interested in. Anyways.. good luck studying.. and with your exam!
