hay and straw?

is hay the same as straw? can i just mix straw with verm and peat moss ? would that make a significant change? rather than just verm and peat?

Hay is dry grasses gone to seed. Straw is dry cereal grass (rye, wheat) minus the seed. Horses eat hay, they shit on straw. Either can be colonized, but neither should be considered as part of a casing layer.
