Will Oat Straw work as a substrate?

My friend raises horses and has oat straw available..... would that work as a substrate like wheat straw?.... I`m sure some old road apples......lol. the drier ones would help to...... thanks for any replies in advance :smile:

To the closest boook store and grab a copy of the mushroom cultivator, by Paul Stamets. It has a whole section on cereal straws and mixing your own compost.
And then yes it will work but I am being told that you can not inject or put spores direcly into the straw. It's is better to mix it will grain spawn.
