can you use just a filter disk and the ring of the lid on your jars during colonization? seems like all the additional air exchange would really speed things up but are the filter disks REALLY that effeicient or will this cause contams?

Damn this is the third post in the last five minutes that I have awnsered, I'm a know it all....
Leave the lid on! Your jars will dry out very quickly if you dont. For the first of colonization I dont think exchange really matters. After about 60% take the lids off and keep the bands on. That way you get the air when you need it most and you still have a decent amount of moisture left in the jars.

Thats what I do. Then I take the lid off and stick the jars in a humidification chamber. My B+colonized 100% in about 15 or 16 days.

I just realized 16 days sounds like a lot, but I use pint jars. I bet 1/2 pints colonize fast as shit with disks.
