Filter disks

Hello everyone, just a simple question for you all. AFOAF has just started using rye berries and was using the whole filter disks instead of the metal lids. Now he wants to cut a hole in the lids so he can use a smaller piece of the filter disks (he is running low and doesnt want to wait until his next order can come in). How big should he drill the hole in the metal lid for good air exchange (he is using pint jars) and what is the best way to attach the filter disk to the lid? He was thinking of using hot glue or super glue, but wanted your opinions first.

Sorry if this is a simple question but the search is down and he cant find it anywhere in the FAQs

I use a hole about the size of an average screwdriver (philips), between the size of a nail and a pen, closer to the nail

If the disk fits snuggly you dont have to attach it it will just stay in there. If its bigger you can just have it overlap the glass and then screw the lit over it, so it kinda hangs off the side. I use poly fill so i dont have to secure it. Ive also used plain coffee filters over the whole lid, held by a rubber band. Worked great, never got a contam.
