Furnishing an apartment...

So I'm back at school for the Fall...Me and some good friends just moved into our new place, which is the whole top floor of this old-ass apartment building. Its fucking HUGE and GORGEOUS....
The problem is, we have NO furniture. We have like, 3 chairs. And we have to furnish a living room, dining room, smoking room, and another room that I dont know WTF it is. Maid's Quarters, the landlord says.
Any suggestions for getting free furniture? Or really cheapo stuff?

Take your time.
Don't go buying a bunch of lame shit all at once.
You need to start scouring:
www.craigslist.org the newspaper classifieds Ikea yard sales
college kids are expected to have very little, get a couple important things and then just keep your eyes peeled.
your parent's have any furniture they need to replace?
sometimes my mom just needs a good excuse to buy a new couch...AKA, I gave the old one to my son.

goodwill is a start... I got some decent wood end tables and a coffee table there when I moved. I'd be a little skeptical of real furniture from there though, never know why it's at Goodwill.

goodwill, thriftshops, yard sales are all good places.
My girlfriend and I just moved into an apartment and we got a free kitchen table from my dad, a couch from her dad, a coffe table from my grandma, endtables from her mom, and tons of free stuff. We found an awesome desk on the side of the rode that said free. This is a huge metal desk they use in office bulidings, and it has a bulit in filing cabnit.

Hell yea, I didn't need anything fancy when I first moved on my own. Just searched through the thrift stores and garage sales. Found some awesome deals.

If you live in a college town, lots of students throw their couches out at the end of august (they graduate and move out of apartments), you can get something until you have money for a couch.

Yeah, just drive through a nicer neighborhood the day before trash/collection day and you can find some decent furniture sitting out on the curbs. Score! But I always like the look and feel of a new place before you have any furniture in it. Sparse and serene, it's like a clean chalkboard waiting for some creative sofa placement.

Trashpicking is a good source of furniture.
