can you case and use cakes at the same time?
    #456737 -

my friend is growing for his first time and wants to experiment using a casing set up and a pf tek type method at the same time. He wants to grow Thai Lipa Yumas (sp?) on rye cased with coco coir, and EQ on a bottom layer of wet perlite and a top layer of equal parts vermiculite and peat moss with a little hydrated lime. The substrate will be verm and brf for the EQ. He wants to know if he can use the same terrarium to grow the two strains at the same time. Also, any advice on growing these two strains and if his plan is even feasable would be appreciated.

peace

Sure, that's no problem.

If your friend is growing for his first time, i think what he is planning to do maybe a little more complicated than what he should be attempting.
However, if he does, 2 separate terrariums would be a good idea. Especially because he is planning to put cakes and casings in the same one, not to mention them being different strains. Casings require less humidity, around 90%, whereas cakes really need 100%.
I suggest he starts off with the pf tek before attempting complicated casings with rye, and coco coir et al.

But, if your set on doing it, make sure you read up all you can on the associated procedures and common problems.
Good luck

Peace

If he followed the pf tek but colonized half of the jars with one strain, and half with the other, would putting them in the same terrarium be a problem?
