I just ate a bunch of ants

Ok... so I went in the pantry and grabbed an opened bag of nuts
Started munching away.. mmm good.
Folded it back up and put it back when I was done
Then i sat back down, and noticed I had about 50 tiny ants crawling all over my arm :crazy2:

I went back and double-checked the bag.. sure enough... a couple hundred tiny little ants crawling around  :eek:

oh well.. extra protein I guess.

Ants and the Forest Community
Ants are among the most common rainforest animals. Because of their commonness, many ants have developed symbiotic relationships with various plants. Several epiphytes have developed swollen tubers that have hollow interiors so that particular species of ants might live there. It is the nutrient-rich excretions of the ants that benefit the plant. In South American rainforests, some canopy-dwelling ants actually plant and care for their own gardens. These ants will collect the seeds of various epiphytes, which they plant on the tree branches outside their nests. The ants will then collect animal dung that they nourish the plants with. In return for this care, the epiphytes provide sugary excretions from extrafloral nectaries (i.e., they provide the ants with nectar from glands whose only purpose is to provide ants with nectar). Oddly enough, these ?ant-gardens? are most abundant in the extremely nutrient-poor heath forests. One small tree (Barteria fitulosa) growing in the rainforests of West Africa is defended against herbivores by a ferocious ant (Pachysima aethiops) whose sting can actually penetrate elephant hide and numb anything much smaller for days. Some ants protect the trees in which they dwell by biting off any plant that comes in contact with ?their? tree. These trees with their own ?defense system? are often quite free of epiphytes.

That happened to me once.

I went to the Mediterranean, and was eating this weird extremely hot (Americans don't know what real hot spices are like) sort of sauce, dipping bread in it and munching away- then I saw ants in it and realize I'd just eaten some.

But nobody else there cared, they thought the ants were just extra protein too.

not that i would eat them if i noticed the ants before though.

eh we all eat bugs on accident anyway every once in a while
like spiders and gnats and whatnot.. I'd consciously eat bugs if I was like.. really hungry.. mmm grubs

i've eaten a lot of those. they used to steal all the dirt from my indoor cactus pots and made a colony in the walls behind the wall outlet. they were always crawling around my bed, so i started eating them one day. they do have a spicy tang to them.
