check out the same mushrooms after just a few hours of drying.

the stems and gills were white/off white just a few hours ago, now they are turning royal blue. When they are fully dry the stems and gills often turn black from the massive amounts of blueing. Man weilii are awsome!

great pics, dimmy. verry helpful. is it true that weilii only grow in bermuda grass, not fescue? does that mean golf courses are good hunting grounds?

cry me a river....

weilii habitat has been discussed at length in  the past.

do a search

you asked for specific locations and I deleted your post as per the rules, you said nothing about grass or trees in the post that was deleted.  strike 2 was in reference to the false ID you gave that was also deleted from another thread today.

sorry for interrupting the thread with this :smirk:, nice find Dimmy

listen, I didn't save what you typed, so I can't paste it or review the exact words to see if that's correct or not. I know your post had the word specific followed by either areas, locations or habitats, my guess is one of the first 2, but I could be wrong.

you seemed to be asking for people to tell you specifically where to go to find mushrooms, so I deleted the post.

you being a smartass about it isn't helping to make your point.

in any case, the question of specific habitat can be answered fully by doing a search, so do one.

they can grow in all sorts of grass, doesnt have to be bermuda. they also grow in red wood chips, pinestraw and basically sometimes can be found growing straight out of the clay. ive heard people finding them on golf courses but ive personally never found any there they tend to like the thicker grass that gives them a little more shade and protection. As far as habitat psif DH is right if you did a little research on the site youd find all the answers you need instead of asking in these threads. do a search for weilii and you get all the info you need to start looking, but it will be hard trying to hunt them this early if you dont already have a spot to look. they are growing slow and few and far between due to the extreme heat the last few weeks, its evaporating all the moisture before it really has time to soak in... good luck and nice find dimmy

what is up with you people and answering simple questions? i've been looking at message boards for years and i've never seen anything like this. i know that idiots come around here and make fools of themselves. i HAVE done a little research on this site. i was actually asking a question about some of that research that i've been doing. a PM that someone sent me stated that weilii "grow primarily in bermuda grass." i've been to weilii.com and read everything i can find there (including every single post on the message board) to collaborate this statement. i've searched this site. i've found nothing that colaborates this statement. i'm sorry if i'm sounding like an ass, but if you can show me a better way of proving/disproving the above statement than asking someone who has just found weilii in in a grassy environment, then i'd sure like to hear it.

uhhhh, no one got on your case about anything, chill out.

I'm aware your question isn't answered in our FAQs and the answer is harder to find (definitely not impossible if you look though, I'm sure it's been asked more than once before) than the question Psifreek(sp) was asking.  that's why I didn't give you shit about it, and as far as I can tell, phishhead wasn't either.

as for the answer, you'll have to wait for someone from GA to tell you, or find the answer in the archives, cause I live in a different part of the country and don't have a clue about what kind of grass you'd find weilii growing in in GA.  Just FYI though, running a search of this forum for 'bermuda grass' in the past 15 months gives 1000 hits, mostly from weilii threads, so I imagine there's probably something to that statement :smirk:.
