Ravus, who didn't love you to cause you to create threads and attitudes like this that you know will cause arguments and dislike towards you? Why do you need conflict? Radar's done, he's in jail. You can still be saved. There are people here who would care a lot about you if you accepted their love. There are people here who probably still love you in spite of your attitudes, I'm not one of them.

The deeds have already been done.

Do people who support Christianity think of the families of the victims who have been burned alive by the religion? No? Does this mean we have to demonize Christianity, simply because it has tortured and killed hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people? No, not in my opinion. We can demonize it, which won't bring anyone back, or we can study it and try to understand it and see it in different lights, which also won't bring anyone back but may help to advance our knowledge and understanding.

Evil is, after all, subjective.

MarkostheGnostic is a straight shooter from the things I've read of his. I don't think he thinks he's above anybody. The idea that you write him off as thinking he is morally superior because he speaks the truth is not surprising. Your ego is that big. Not his.

Thank you, I love being lectured by close-minded people.

Perhaps you're the one who needs enlightening here. I recommend reading some Nietzsche; perhaps Beyond Good and Evil would be a sufficient elementary starting book.

sox, I'm just here to understand serial killers better through discussion and ravus's perspective on them which is NOT mine btw.

What good would it do me, Ravus or anyone to judge Ravus for his POV?

I have been working at seeking understanding where I would normally be quick to judge. I learn a lot that way.

Ravus isn't on trial here. This is a message board and he's free to discuss what he wants to as long as he stays within the forum rules.
He's just exercising his freedom of speech.

I'm keeping this in perspective.

Christianity is as fine a faith as any, I don't understand what you using it here has to do with anything. There are good Catholics and there are evil Catholics if anything, far more good.

Evil isn't subjective, you just think it is. How would you know it is subjective if you can't recognize the evil in the BTK killer. Isn't he something close to evil personafied?

I think your problem could be that you think this evil person isn't evil because there are so many people who are evil who claim they are good. I don't want to pick a fight, I want to help you. Ravus, you have to see that this guy is either crazy evil or just crazy, neither is something a person should want to proclaim as examples of transcendence. Pity the BTK killer, that's all you need to do. You don't have to say he's a hero, he's not.

How is evil not subjective?

Do you believe in evolution? If so, when did evil come about? Was it here at the Big Bang, or when the earth was simply particles of dust collecting together? Did it exist when bacteria ruled the earth?

There is no right and wrong, there is only survival and dominance. Might makes right, as they say.

Anything which is a living and not a dying body will have to be an incarnate will to power; it will strive to grow, spread, seize, become predominant - not from any morality or immorality but because it is living and because life simply is will to power... 'Exploitation' belongs to the essence of what lives, as a basic organic function; it is a consequence of the will to power, which is after all the will to life.
-Nietzsche

Maybe evil has only been around as long as people who believed in it. I believe in evil to the extent that the merciful and loving God made it. I don't know the answers to your questions because you don't know what you are asking. Maybe the world and the universe are nothing more than the set for our souls, where we act out the play of life. Maybe things are not as they appear, that's what I'd like to think. Don't think you can discredit me when I can't come up with the answers men have been asking since we have developed the brains to question, questions that most likely have no answers except to test a person's faith or challenge their minds to love.

There is a right and wrong. I believe so if for no other reason than you believe there isn't.

And in this case, evil exists as an answer to the question for each of us, and is subjective.

However, these souls, God, I see you make many leaps of faith. I'm sure your faith has been tested and confirmed many times over if you can adopt a viewpoint like this, but I don't believe in either souls or God.

The reason these questions have no answers is because the answers lie in Darwinism, science and logic. Evil doesn't exist except as a subjective judgement of the world; survival is the only important factor absolute to all of humanity.

I must be a monumental force in your reality then, eh? :smirk:

Believing something because someone doesn't believe it is just as bad as believing something because they do believe it. Why don't you learn to think for yourself? Learn to question, ask for evidence, look at the world differently. You seem to be caught up in a lapse of spirituality; I hope you can pull through.

Darwin was a guy who noticed a trend in nature about a hundred years ago. There will be many more Darwinisms. To say the answers lie in Darwinism, science, and logic is just false, completely true. The answer is that you don't have a single answer. You are just an example to me how not to act to people. Having said that, I wish you the best. Hope you come to realize that there is a God, who had a hand in making you.

See, you just want to be something to someone.  You're something to me.  Now learn to love.  What I said was right on, I should believe there is right and wrong because you've proved hundreds of times in this thread that your opinions are not of a person who thinks in accordance with the ways of love.  As I believe Mark said, no matter how subjective things are, the way of love would almost always seem to favor life and love over death and destruction.  Death and destruction is a set up to test the love, to make the love capable of being noticed and cared for.

Altruism, compassion, self-less action do not 'serve' survival and in fact have often been enacted at the expense of one's life, from the archetypal self-sacrifice of Christ to the Gentiles who hid Jews from the Nazis and paid with their lives. I'm not referring to the religious masochism of martyrs. Compassion necessarily enjoins a detachment from self which is why it is the central value of religions. It represents the Transcendental (vertical axis of experience) transposed to human, earthly (horizontal axis) concerns.

Indeed, I agree. It may be irrelevant for me to post that because I know the nature of emotions, and people will always try to make the pleasant ones their entire mindset or lifestyle. And of course, they won't usually succeed; humans may hate suffering, but they can't live without it, otherwise we'd destroy the entire point of having negative and unpleasant feelings and emotions.

Here you are wrong. I do not try to make plesant ones my entire mindset. (you implied all people do this) . I realize I grow from many unplesant experiences. I believe if I allow these unpleasant feelings explore them (I do not have to act them out to explore them) I will grow and have more of what I want. Logically I want an expansive joyfull feeling, so this is a means to that end. Sometimes Ravus it seems you equate suffering as the end and the means. It seems from other posts you glorify suffering and try to make unplesant experience your guide. Which would be just the reverse of what you accuse me of doing.  :yinyang:

explicint happyness can not last for ever, because it has to have an oposite, but life can be more than a search for positive emotions.
For example, if we had a society that does not have any reason for negative emotions, our happyness would in years turn into a pleasant peace which could last without the need for chalenges, which is a good thing I think.

I use survival in a Darwinistic sense after all. I doubt his kids will grow up to be serial killers; I would bet becoming a serial killer has more to do with the environment's activation of your potential than the genetics themselves.

Genetics may play a role. Remember that Veritas cited studies that said serial killers did not have the mammalian portion of the brain functioning normally. She didn't mention if it was a genetic disorder or not.

Anybody know?

Quote:
emedicine.com:
Antisocial personality disorder: A genetic contribution to antisocial behaviors is strongly supported. Low levels of behavioral inhibition may be mediated by serotonergic dysregulation in the septohippocampal system. There may also be developmental or acquired abnormalities in the prefrontal brain systems and reduced autonomic activity in antisocial personality disorder. This may underlie the low arousal, poor fear conditioning, and decision-making deficits described in antisocial personality disorder.

If you are interested in more info about the function of the limbic system, specifically in the development (or lack thereof) of limbic resonance (i.e. empathy, ability to feel love and compassion), I recommend "A General Theory of Love."
