The Wilde Knights - "Beaver Patrol" (mp3)
    #4549657 - 08/18/05 01:41 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

***NOTE: OLD THREAD.  DEAD LINK.***

Once again, this one isn't what I'd call psychedelic, but it's from 1965 and it's pretty funny.  40 years later and this still couldn't be played on the air.  Two years after this was released, there was a band out of Hollywood named Beaver Patrol, but I have no idea if they named themselves after the Wilde Knights song.  Read this and then enjoy that.................

The Wilde Knights

Personnel:
DEAN ADAIR A
RICH BROWN A
RICK DEY A
ROGER HUYCKE A

ALBUM:
1 ROUGH DIAMONDS VOL 7: THE WlLDE KNIGHTS (Voxx 200.026) 1984

45s:
1 Beaver Patrol/Tossin' And Turnin' (Star-Bright 3051) 1965
2 Beaver Patrol/Tossin' And Turnin' (Modern 1014) 1965
3 Just Like Me/I Don't Care (Star-Bright 3052) 1965

Huycke, Brown and Adair all originated from Seattle where they had played in The Caravans, The Fury's and The Pipers IV. They headed for L.A. when founder member Ray Kennedy was drafted. Adding Rick Dey who joined from The Vejtables, lineup 'A' recorded the above two 45s. Paul Revere apparently paid Rick Dey around $5,000 for Just Like Me in 1965 and it became The Raiders' first big hit. The Wilde Knights later reformed in the Northwest in 1967 as Genesis and were later known as King Biscuit Entertainers (1968) and American Cheese (1969).

The Rough Diamonds album is strongly recommended as an excellent source of the careers of The Furys, Pipers IV, Wilde Knights, King Biscuit Entertainers and American Cheese.

Compilation appearances include: Beaver Patrol, now regarded as a punk classic, on Pebbles Vol. 1 (CD), The Essential Pebbles Collection, Vol. 1 (Dble CD), Pebbles Box (5-LP), Pebbles, Vol. 1 (LP), Pebbles, Vol. 1 (ESD) (CD), Acid Dreams - The Complete 3 LP Set (3-LP), Acid Dreams Epitaph (CD), Trash Box (5-CD); Just Like Me on Highs In The Mid Sixties, Vol. 7 (LP); Just Like Me, I Don't Care and Beaver Patrol on Scarey Business (CD).

Rick Dey went on to do stints with February Sunshine and the Merry-Go-Round. He died in late '69/early '70 from an overdose of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) at a Hollywood party.

(Vernon Joynson / Max Waller)
