Is Vancouver a nice place to live?
    #4516366 -

I am thinking of going to college there, just to experience a different kind of living enviroment then my current area. I read that 2 million people live there, that is quite a jump from the 250,000 in my city. Does the city feel congested etc? I don't particulary care for places such a NYC or LA where there are so many people crammed into places and such. Anyways, any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Vancouver B.C.

It's very beautiful there.

I think you would love it there.

I like to go up for a week each year...and just hang out and relax.

Vancouver, Wa.

isn't very nice.

It's cool here but I wouldn't live right in Vancouver. The real appeal of Vancouver is the surrounding forests, mountains, and lakes. It IS a big kind of congested place like NYC or LA but that's the city and that just means in the right area there's more cool people to meet (I think you'd find a lot of like minded people here). Trust me they don't call it "Beautiful British Columbia" for nothing!

I think an outskirt of the city would be much nicer.

Vancouver is pretty damn expensive to live. It's quite a cool place though. I live in Vancouver and I'd probably rather live in Nelson or over on Vancouver Island.

Yea, maybe a suburb would be a better idea. I am trying to go to a college there, so I don't how far away it would be if I was outside of the city. Guess I'd better figure these things out. I just want a chill place to go to college at, and B.C. seems pretty cool.

Vancouver and many areas around it are beautiful. What school are you thinking of going to there? My sister goes to SFU.

Skid row is really sketchy. One of the ugliest neighbourhoods you will ever see. Every person is a junkie. There is a lot of crack and heroin there, it's a very sad area.

But overall it's a beautiful city.

Send John a PM. He lives there and he'll probably be glad to give you his opinions.

Sounds like a cool place. I live in Idaho so I'm right by BC. I appreciate the Fernie resort. Very chill and rustic. Good powder under my board and crazy scenery.

I'm moving permanently to this little resort town I regular at called Sun Valley. Theres no college there but its a hippy/celebrity place in the mountains with wonderful passtimes. And memories. Hope your move is a good one if it happens.

university of british columbia is a respected school and in a great area (just southwest of vancouver, about a 15 minute drive), and if i had the option when i chose where to go i would have definitely considered it. i'm sure more than 2 million people live here, if you include areas such as richmond, burnaby, north van, etc. it doesn't feel congested -- it feels like a city. if you live/work/study in the city you don't need a car as the public transit system is solid (i'm from houston so i was way impressed)

i live a couple blocks from stanley park and english bay and pay less than what i would pay for a comfortable apartment in BFE houston. would i ever give it up? sure, when i want a family. but for now i'm enjoying easy access to the beach and parks, as well as the cool stuff the city has to offer.

vancouver is a great place indeed.
