I have a 1pint spent cake. Is this enough for me to trip ok if I make it into tea? Just curious. If not I'm just gonna throw it in the back yard. Thanks in advance for any responses. Lol never tried tea before, I normally just wince and chew the little slugs down.

Just throw it in the backyard and smoke a joint instead. I doubt 1 used half pint cake will get you going.

A spent cake is a contaminated cake, thats why it stops producing mushrooms. Yea, you can boil it and kill most the bacteria, but I would eat the healthy mushrooms and toss the cake.

Spent doesn't always mean contaminated. It usually means the moisture is gone or the nutrients are gone.

Thanks all. Lol actually, cxz I ended up doing exactly that =) Thanks for the advice all. When I said spent I just meant it had been through 4 flushes and all the nutrients were gone, so the few pins it grew on the 5th flush just aborted.

Insomnia and Cub are correct. A cake will stop producing mushrooms for a number of reasons, (supposing environment doesn't change). If the cake runs out of nutrients or internal moisture it will stop producing. Contamination will cause the cake to stop producing also, but is not the only cause. I believe you might have been able to make a tea with just one cake, but if I recall correctly, most recipes call for two cakes (per dose).

Gotcha. Thanks, D. Actually, the cake I had was 1 pint. So it's the same as 2 (1/2 pint) cakes. Next one that stops flushing (made 10 pint cakes, lol wanted to be prepped for a camping trip with 2 friends. Guess I have enough mushrooms!) I'm gonna make it into tea. Just seems waistefull to throw em out. Thanks for the help all.
