Just had a really long convo with my parents...

About drug use, prohibition and legalization. It was pretty cool. My dad was actually on my side, and we completely owned my mom.
Seriously, we debunked all this shit she was throwing at us, and we talked about how legalizing would solve dozens of problems with the world.
My dad thought strychnine was used in LSD or something, debunked that shit with Erowid as well.
Man it was fucking rad.

I've had convos very similar. My dad's always on my side and we prove my mom wrong. Then she gets all pissy and doesnt talk for a while.

That sounds great! Wish I could have that talk with my dad, also with my mom..my dad would be closed minded about it FOREVER but my mom MIGHT open up a bit...

She just thinks that legalization of 'hard drugs' would cause way more people to use them.
I thought I've seen studies (from places where 'hard drugs' are legal) disproving this... anyone know where I can find them?

http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/mdma_timeline.php
Jul 1 1985: MDMA temporarily placed into Schedule I by the DEA under emergency scheduling provisions.
1987: First published report of a human death due to MDMA use.
No one died from MDMA until AFTER it was scheduled, suggesting when it was placed there the quality went down since it was harder to manufacture, and there was more of a risk of getting a shitty product

Yes we pointed out the fact that legalization would make the purity of the drug go up and the price go down.
I'm talking about highly addictive drugs, like heroin and cocaine. Would the use in fact go up if those drugs were legal?
Hasn't there been studies showing that prohibition makes drug use look attractive to people, thus higher amounts of people use drugs when they are illegal?
I think that happened with alcohol when it was illegal.

"Another downfall of prohibition was that the illegally made products had no standards. Deaths from poisoned liquor rose from 1,064 in 1920 to 4,154 in 1925."
http://www.geocities.com/athens/troy/4399/
But seven years after Prohibition went into effect, the total deaths from adulterated liquor reached approximately 50,000, and many more cases of blindness and paralysis. According to one story, a potential buyer who sent a liquor sample to a laboratory for analysis was shocked when a chemist replied: "Your horse has diabetes."

There's some info you can use as an example, I'll try and find some more stuff on other drugs.

I was just chatting with my hippy aunt in the car today and she goes back (shes only 35) to times of acid trips and bong rips. She knows it was fun but its a moderation thing.
Theres those in the family that know what its like.
My dad defended me when I got busted with weed once. Said it was a spur of the moment thing. Even if it was on school campus. hehe. Guess parents come around when they choose to. Or family.

I actually convinced my dad that pot isn't that bad one night. He hasn't given me shit about me being the biggest pothead since. He's very curious but would never actually smoke. Some people just dont know that much about it and when you actually give them hard proof as opposed to what they have been fed all their lives, they will realize the truth.

...Yeah, but most are stubborn ignorant assholes who don't care whether you prove them wrong a 1000 times or not.
