GEB Great book on human intelligence and AI
    #4459855 - 07/27/05 01:31 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Has anyone read Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid? This is a great book dealing with various topics in cognitive and computer sciences. This is the best book I have ever read concerning AI and human intelligence. Please post what you thought about it or other books on these subjects.

I have it, but I can't read the majority of it. So much math. It's really one hell of an advanced book. But some of the sections are good.

I was looking at that book a few weeks ago, I didn't buy it though. Too little money at the time.

Recommended though? AI and quantifying intelligence are on my mind all the time.

It's won more literature awards than you can shake a stick at. I'm sure it's good if you can manage it.

The book is great, it covers so many things that I am interested in. It is some serious reading, took me over a month to read with a normal work schedule. It is worth getting through if you don't understand concepts keep going because a lot of stuff is reviewed in different ways. I just graduated high school and I would definitely consider this a dense book but I managed to get through it. You will want to read it again when you get through it once.

Yeah, it's an intense book. Some chapters I just started reading and then skipped because I just wasn't ready to ingest the information to any useful level. I'm sure to someone as advanced as the author this stuff is child's play in God's words, but to me it's crazyness.

It's well worth the read. Although if you have a strong background in math you might find yourself laughing at some of the explanations.
