Report: Bin Laden Cocaine Plot Fell Through
    #4455129 - 07/26/05 01:02 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

By Dan Mangan

WASHINGTON ? Usama bin Laden tried to buy a massive amount of cocaine, spike it with poison and sell it in the United States, hoping to kill thousands of Americans one year after the Sept. 11 attacks, The Post has learned.

The evil plot failed when the Colombian drug lords bin Laden approached decided it would be bad for their business ? and, possibly, for their own health, according to law-enforcement sources familiar with the Drug Enforcement Administration's (search) probe of the aborted transaction.

The feds were told of the scheme earlier this year, but its existence had never been made public. The Post has reviewed a document detailing the DEA's findings in the matter, in addition to interviewing sources familiar with the case.

Sources said the feds were told that bin Laden personally met with leaders of a Colombian drug cartel to in 2002 to negotiate the purchase of tons of cocaine, saying that he was willing to spend tens of millions of dollars to finance the deal.

It was not clear where the meeting took place.

Bin Laden hoped that large numbers of Americans dying from poisoned coke would lead to widespread terror.

"They wanted to kill thousands of people ? more than the World Trade Center," said a source.

Although the drug lords would have reaped millions of dollars in profits by selling the cocaine to bin Laden, they knew that if his plan succeeded it might effectively destroy the market for their coke in America for years, sources said.

But that was only one reason they declined bin Laden's offer.

The other was their fear of retaliation from the U.S. government once its citizens started to die from the drugs, according to sources.

Despite bin Laden's plan being thwarted, the DEA believes that al Qaeda continues to this day to traffic in drugs to fund a variety of its operations ? including training, traveling and terror attacks.

In 2002, then-DEA Director Asa Hutchinson (search) said, "The DEA [has] received multi-source information that Usama bin Laden himself has been involved in the financing and facilitation of heroin-trafficking activities."

"It is important we recognize that when money goes from the pocket of an American to buy drugs, it may contribute to the financing of unspeakable crimes of violence around the world," Hutchinson told Congress that year when he detailed the narcotics trade connection to al Qaeda and other terror groups.

In April of this year, Afghan tribal leader Hajji Bashir Noorzai (search), who was one of the most wanted drug dealers in the world and previously had been identified as bin Laden's major heroin supplier, was busted in New York City on federal criminal charges.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (search), as little as 500 micrograms of ricin, roughly the amount that fits on the head of a straight pin, is enough to kill an adult.

The chemical substance is derived from the castor bean, and that's a natural substance. I don't think castor beans are difficult to obtain.

What if ricin started turning up in cocaine? how would the poolice search your car?

Castor beans are WICKED easy to obtain. My mother has been growing castor plants all her life- the leaves are highly poisonous as well, and we always had to make sure our pets didn't eat them. The plant yields a good handful of seeds each harvest,

They're nice looking houseplants.

BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just like the Vietcong spiking weed being smoked by American Soldier in vietnam right?

I seriously doubt a man who was destroying poppy fields left and right in Afganistan would have anything to do with drugs.

You know... just hearing any news story with the words "Bin Laden" involved really hits my bullshit button.

Edit: ...oh wait it's from Fox News, of course it's bullshit.

I am so fucking angry after reading that obviously fabricated piece of shit fairy tale.

Listen... spiked coke would never make it to the consumer. You know how many times coke is sold and resold before it hits the marker? You know how many checks and balances there are in the drug trade? All this would've caused would be to cost the Columbian Drug Trade several million dollars in product and in shipping and security costs and killed off maybe a few dozen patsies who were doing the coke for their bosses to see how pure it was. AND THAT'S ALL THE WOULD'VE FUCKING HAPPENED! You know what would've been sweet about this though? If this had happened, if there even is such a thing as Bin Laden anymore, the ColumbianS would've gone after him would've gotten him and put his head on a post somewhere for fucking them out of money and hurting their reputation. You don't fuck with the drug trade. You can crash into buildings all you want, but you do not fuck with the drug trade.

Besides, this never would've happened anyway because Laden's reputation in the drug community was so horrible because of his destruction of poppy fields that I seriously doubt anyone would do business with him.

BULLSHIT!

FUCK THIS STUPIDITY.

On a side note, I feel so strange being an American who actually thinks...

Osama bin Laden a 'narco-terrorist'

By Rowan Scarborough
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The al Qaeda terror group has embraced heroin trafficking to such an extent that its leader, Osama bin Laden, is now a "narco-terrorist," says a U.S. congressman just back from a fact-finding mission in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"It seems clear to me heroin is the No. 1 financial asset of Osama bin Laden," Rep. Mark Steven Kirk, Illinois Republican, told The Washington Times. "There is a need to update our view of how terrorism is financed.
"And the view of Osama bin Laden relying on Wahhabi donations from abroad is outdated. And the view of him as one of the world's largest heroin dealers is the more accurate, up-to-date view."
Mr. Kirk wants a pronounced shift in how the Bush administration tries to stop al Qaeda funding. Up to now, Washington has focused on bin Laden's traditional sources: Islamic charities and his family fortune.
But the Bush team has choked off much of that flow, forcing bin Laden to adjust. In Afghanistan, bin Laden has the benefit of the world's largest poppy crop, as he evades capture in Pakistan's notorious border areas. He is reaping $24 million alone from one narcotics network in Kandahar, Afghanistan, according to Mr. Kirk's investigation.
The congressman said it is no longer sufficient to go after only the charities and bank accounts. Washington now must fuse counterterrorism and counternarcotics into an inseparable mission.
"The most important thing here is to change the language to not describe Osama bin Laden anymore as a terrorist, but to more accurately describe him as a narco-terrorist," said Mr. Kirk, who sits on the Appropriations subcommittee on commerce, justice, state and judiciary.
Mr. Kirk and his team of House staff investigators spent five days in Pakistan and Afghanistan, whose farm areas once again are sprouting thousands of acres of poppies from which opium and heroin are produced. Hundreds of illicit drug labs have sprung up to process the heroin for shipment to Pakistan.
The al Qaeda-heroin connection is becoming more clear to Washington. The first big break came last month, when Navy ships seized boats concealing large stashes of heroin and operated by crew members linked to al Qaeda.
In Afghanistan, Mr. Kirk talked to a variety of sources, including U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents, U.S. troops and Afghan counternarcotics officials.
A kilogram of heroin that can fetch $2,000 in Pakistan can get $10,000 in Turkey. That is why al Qaeda has begun sending drug-laden boats into the Arabian Sea: to find more lucrative markets outside Pakistan.
"If he can expand his operation closer and closer to the retail market, he will dramatically increase his profit," Mr. Kirk said.
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is reluctant to get his troops too deeply involved in the drug wars, aides say. Some Pentagon officials view counternarcotics as predominately a law enforcement duty. In Afghanistan, where the United Nations reports 264,000 poppy-growing families, the U.S. military does not want to alienate citizens whose support it needs for the U.S.-backed government of Hamid Karzai.

Report: Bin-Laden Planned To Poison Cocaine Supply in U.S.

July 26, 2005 4:23 p.m. EST

Douglas Maher - All Headline News Staff Reporter

New York, NY (AHN) - The New York Post reports Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden planned to purchase tons of cocaine and lace it with poison, possibly leading to the deaths of thousands of Americans, just one year after the 9-11 attacks.

The DEA report apparently includes information indicating Colombian drug lords were approached by bin-Laden and decided the scheme would be physically harmful to them as well as ruin their illegal trade around the world.

The document was written in 2002 by then DEA Director Asa Hutchinson, where he says, "The DEA has received multi-source information that Osama Bin Laden himself has been involved in the financing and facilitation of heroin-trafficking activities. It is important we recognize that when money goes from the pocket of an American to buy drugs, it may contribute to the financing of unspeakable crimes of violence around the world."

Wait.. so Bin Laden is using the DEA and the war on drugs (and personal freedom) to fight america? The CIA must be on to something here... Foreign policy = irrelevant to terrorism (and we all know terrorists have no political motivation)

It shouldn't take a bong hit to figure this out.
