I have four jars. I have innoculated all four, and they have been sitting for about two weeks. Nothing happened no mycelium.. nothin. I decided to add a little water to a test jar and see if they just needed a little more moisture. Well about a week later they bloomed and started taking over the cakes exponentially. But, the test jar developed a sweet funky smell to it unlike the other three. At first I thought it to be garbage and contaminated. But I kept it around just to see if it would pin or not. It eventually did, about three weeks after the other three pinned.
I was wondering if it safe to eat the mushrooms from the "contaminated" cake. They went to full maturity but they fatassed on me. They look and smell like just like the others. And the cake is pure white. No trace of the supposed initial contamination. Any info is appreciated.

Now see, I have 5 jars of DRF/Verm. and they were all about 60-80% colonized and I took off the tape and set them upside down. No sign of contams until I added a fishtank heater in a jar of H2o/H2o2. The RH was about 90%(definitely higher than it had been,but I was told coloniz. could be kept at that level) and it kept them at about a steady 86 degrees. Now after 2 weeks.....slower growth, still no signs of contams EXCEPT this sweet yet almost stinky feet smell to 'em??? Lots of ropey myc. and even the bottoms of the jars are half done...I was SOOOOOOO close. This is the second batch I've ended up with the same smell. I tossed teh others but I'm holding on to these. WHAT DO I DO??? Are they trash or what? I don't wanna get sick if they are filled w/some bacteria. Will they even pin if they are? Someone?? Anyone??
