Hidden Pot Farm Uncovered On College Campus

WESTBURY, N.Y. -- An electrical contractor working on a Long Island college campus stumbled upon an elaborate underground marijuana farm Monday morning, police said.

The contractor working at the State University of New York at Old Westbury discovered PVC piping containing electrical wiring that led to three water tanks three feet underground.

The hydroponic operation was used in the past for growing marijuana plants, police said.

In an effort to keep the clandestine operations "underground," whoever was growing the drugs broke into the defunct water storage tanks and piped in water and lighting from the university grounds, police said.

The 10-foot by 60-foot tanks were used in succession for seedlings, transplants, and -- finally -- adult plants, police said.

The tanks, which police believe hadn't been used in several years, were dismantled. The 300 plants were in a state of decay and were removed for disposal, police said.

Authorities think the farm, whose growing area covered 1,800 square feet, may have been active for as many as five years.

Police officials said they had no suspects.

ya, or they graduated and got a job and it wasnt worth it for them to go back.

me and my boy went down to the basement of our dorms and started kicking on doors and we found one that said 'sauna'  so we kicked that big ass steel door in.  took like 300 drunk kicks hanging from the pipes on the cieling, we just used it as a suana but it could have had many uses.
