Aplication of aspirin on plants?

I have been looking some online articles on systemic acquired defences of plants,that is how plants protect themselves from pathogens such as funghi.SOme of them mentioned that a signaling molecule within the cell is eaither a jasmonate (jasmonic acid i think) or salicylic acid.What the article demostrated is endurance of plants to diseases and in some cases increased alkaloid content...

So,common aspirin being acetylsalicylic acid could theoretically be applied to plants to have such effects.Can anyone share any more knowledge with me on this matter?

I know on cut plants that a couple of asprin will do wonders, it may also aid in
rooting as it was originaly extracted from willow bark

Yes indeed Salicylic acid comes from Salix (wilow) hence the name.

Have you noticed any increases in secondary metabolites?

good point. I remember an old timer telling me willow bark tea is good for aches and pains.

Look for articles on induced systemic response and systemic acquired resistance.
Had some lessons in this material. Mainly about plants becoming resistant all over the plant instead of only on the point of infection. This is probably by producing more sec metabolites. The signaling molecule within the plant is (Jasmonic acid) JA, ethylene or SA (Salicylic acid).
A typical varieties of nicotiana tabacum (i have this strain, if you want some seeds) called samsun has the gene for salicylic acid production continuously switched on. This induced a enhanced resistance against a lot of pathogens.

Does it exhibit stunted growth Dark ice? The rational behind my question is that such a behaviour ,a systemic resistance alwas switched on could divert a lot of nutrients to that system maybe affecting growth

2% salicylic acid (usually in 70% isopropanol) is available OTC in all pharmacies in Israel, and it probably is available worldwide as well (the pharmaceutical use is as a keratolytic). The alcohol, of course, evaporates cleanly, leaving pure SA crystals/powder. So why worry oneself with that extra acetyl group? (as well as binders possibly preventing efficient plant uptake)
In fact, I should try this myself - all my squash plants have succumbed to powdery mildew, and I eschew the use of fungicides.
