Orange spots

My rice cakes have been pinning and producing small amounts of mushrooms for the last month. I have just noticed orange spots on the mycelium. Is this contam?

Could be. If you can, take a pic and post it here, it would be great, more info is needed.
Watch if the spots gow or if it smells bad, but if it's orange there's a high probabilty it could be a contam.

I don't have the capability to post a picture but the colouring seems to have dissappeared for now. No bad smell. I guess its ok but ill wait and see.

Also I have a large orangy/goldy coloured piece of fungus towards the top of the cake. It has been growing and is now about 1 inch diameter although it is not round. Is this a misshapen mushroom and why does this happen?

it could be.... after cakes produce a certain amount of shrooms, they are typically spent. if they have been producing for a while now, they are probably close to being spent.... after that all they will grow is contams.... good luck

I lost 6 jars to a funky orange contam.(contaminated syringe) It was pale orange and smelled like nasty gym socks. It was growing in large patches and in the few that germinated, it ended up around my mycelium and stopped its growth. I let one that was fairly well colonized to just grow and the mycelium eventually overtook the contam. i threw it out anyway just to be safe.
