To birth or not to birth?

I know, I know. This question has been asked over and over. Should this cake be birthed? PF strain, 95% colonized, inverted jar, no tape. Pinning like mad- about a dozen pins on top (bottom of jar), doubling in size overnight. Just pins, no sign of caps yet. Largest is the size of a BB. Some toward the edge show slight signs of blueing. Cake itself has very mild blueing and yellowing. Birth or wait? Because of slowing growth, it may take 3 or so days to finish colonizing. Old cake: 4+ weeks old, but not dry at all. ?

I'de just wait for the rest of the cake to colonise. A few aborts isn't worth comprimising the sterility of your cake.

Birth them bad boys! You already have pins, and you said that the cake has a slight yellow color, along with some bruising. At 95% colo. I really don't think it would be a problem to go either way. Just the fact that you have pins already though........I would. The yellowing could be the waste of the mycl., and the bruising could mean that the cake is drying out. What do I know :) One more thing....are you sure their pins and not knots? Good Luck!

Same thing is happening to a FOAF, he's on his third/fourth week with his 1-pint jars (pf albino), there 90-95% colonized and there pinning like crazy. He already has some massive fruits. What should he do? Wait it out, or bite the bullet and cut off the uncolonized part. Would it make a difference if he plans to case of not? I should also add that the growth kinda stalled out because, he thinks, there was a lot of excess moisture collecting at the bottoms. They are now inverted, but he questions wether they will start colonizing again.

Well, they're yellow-colored BB-looking things. Bubbling up like mad-all the time.
