White contams + inverting jars?!?!

Hello again fellow mycophiles, I am nearing the final stages of colonization and I was wondering a few things: First, I was wondering what sort of whuite contaminants are out there. I lost 6 out of my original pint size jars and to brown molds and now i have a strange looking whitwe fluff on the outside rim of the border of my mycelium growth. IT is yellow at some parts too but I thought perhaps this could e moisture causing this. Any ideas?! Secondly, most of my jars are fully colonized at the tops and sides and only the bottoms remain. Is it smart and safe to invert the jars at this point or would that not be a good idea? Oh yeah, and also, how long is recommended to leave the jars before birthing them after they have been fully colonized. Thanks for any help you can give, Piece, ~SHrizooma

when a few of my jars where close to 85-95% i fliped them for the hell of it, they did colonize full with no contams but they kinda, well ,went marshmellow on me. When they where fliped the mycelium grew up into the gap that was created by the cake slipping down. *shurg* just my 2 cents

White contams could be cobweb mold. Check out pics in the contam forum. I turned my nearly fully colonized BRF jars over and gave them a few good whacks and got some thick explosive growth. This does suck air into the jars and can put them at risk. I use poly filters and have had no problems but I don't know what your situation is. Good luck

White contams, while theoretically being real, are, in my experience, an empty worry, with nothing coming of it.
