Japanese Beetles & MG
    #4371644 - 07/05/05 08:49 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Yesterday I found a beetle on my morning glory bush that I've identified as a Japanese Beetle.  Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of these assholes and how to keep them from making lace out of the leaves?  They're beautiful but I like my plant.  I don't want to use any chemicals on it though-but if there's no choice..... :nonono:

Get yourself a big cup or bowl and put a tablespoon of dish soap in there, fill with hot water, get a spoon and stir it up. Head out to your garden to collect those fockers. They die as soon as they come into contact with the soapy water. But....Are they predators?, how will this affect the local bug population and our Karma?

They make large traps out of bags specifically for these guys....they work awesome. I havent had any touch any of my plant since I put one up, they are one of the few bugs that actually hurt my MGs and HBWR.

If you're referring to Asian lady beetles, these insects are actually beneficial to plants, as they eat aphids, mealy bugs, and other pests.

I have heard that those traps actually draw more beetles into your garden, heh, so many variables in the biodiversity of bugs.

But it sounds like your trap is working, keep us updated :tongue2:

Nope, we're reffering to the larger, irradescent beetles.

Hey, thanks for all the info.  I'll try the soapy shit first and see what happens.  I have a huge nursery by me and I'll see what kind of non-chemical stuff they have.  I don't have flowers yet, but they'll be popping up soon-wanna get rid of them before that. Thanks again
