First of all, get out of the woods. Second of all, buy a book called Psilocybin Mushrooms of The World by Paul Stamets. If you read this book you will understand why I say get out of the woods. Wood loving Psilocybes are much easier to find in parks, and wood chips use for land scaping. I have foung alot of Gymnopilus Spectabilis at the bases of living oak trees inside inner-city parks. I'm assuming that you have a Nat'l Audobon society field guide and just to let you know, it sucks! I had one too. By the way, Ilive in Upstate New York so keep in touch. PS- The only thing I ever find in the woods worth finding are the deadly Galerinas! They WILL kill you. Try and find some of those so you know what they look like. I personally feel alot safer having found and identified this species, now I know what it looks like.

The only psychoactive mushrooms that are officially listed as growing in PA, and the only ones I've ever found Are Amanita muscarina and Gymnopilus spectabilis(sp?). Neither are psylocibin mushrooms, and neither should be collected untill you really know what your looking for. Both have deadly look alikes. If you can find someone who does know how to hunt mushrooms, get out hunting with them fast, 'cause this weekend will get very cold, and will be the last mushroom weekend of the year.
