Pictures I made with my laser - NEW PICS

Well I've managed only to play with my laser since I've gotten it. Nothing really "productive" to show for it, except these photos I took, which I will post now because I'm at work and incredibly bored
This was made by shining the beam through the beveled edge of a triangular prism. The light and dark spots are what is called "laser speckle" and are created by the individual rays of coherent light interfering with eachother (with "normal" light, the different wavelengths cancel out so this "specle" is not seen).
These pics were all made with a lightbulb. The beam was aimed through the very base of the bulb, where there is no frosting on the glass, and made to refract/reflect off of the glass support pillar that holds up the filament.
This last one is just a simple head-on shot of the beam itself. I like it because, for unknown reasons, it created a "halo" effect around the beam in the center (look closely and you can see a lot of concentric red circles in the image).

The lightbulb ones are teh trippy.

oOoO! You can get different colored LASERs and do the trick where you leave the shutter open in the dark and shine colored light at things!

The lightbulb is tight tren. What kind of "productive" uses do you have for your futuristic killing device ?

None yet, though I have some tentative plans to build a laser light-show machine for my bedroon

It's a HeNe gas laser, rated at 1mW.

Not bad, not bad That sure is a fucking great laser for $20!
I would not think twice if I could buy that laser for $20. I want one
You should create an interference pattern with that laser... Weird physics in your own room. I don't know where you can buy something with very very thin openings/slits though.

The guy I got it from off Ebay still has a few hundred of these tubes laying around. It's definitely a steal, for a fully-functional HeNe tube including power supply!

Actually I did this the other day!
I took a glass microscope slide and coated it with a layer of carbon black from a burning candle. Then I taped two SHARP razor blades together and VERY carefully cut a line (which is really two very thin and close-spaced lines) using the razors across the blackened part of the slide.
It worked pretty well and showed a strong interference pattern, but I ruined it fairly quickly by dropping the slide which rubbed off the carbon.
