Do chanterelles grow in Florida? If they do, could someone link to an identifying FAQ.

they most certainly do grow in florida, i live in southwest florida.

you can check out this site for some info,
http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Cantharellus_cibarius.html

or just google cantharellus cibarius. be very careful not to confuse it with omphalotus illudens or omphalotus olivascens, poisonous lookalikes.

So what is the best way to distinguish the chanterells from the poisonous ones?  By looking at google image searches, it looks like the gills are different.  How would you describe this difference? because I don't want to rely on google images when my life is at stake.

chanterelles do not have true gills, the poisonous ones do. chanterelle gills will be forked and sometimes do not reach all the way to the edge of the cap. also Omphalotus illudens will glow in the dark.

Nice find. here in nj, the chanterelles and black trumpets haven't yet started fruiting. I can't wait though!
Chanterelles are mychorizal (spelling?), so you will be hard-pressed to have a successful cultivation attempt. But, it can't hurt to try.
Also, it looks like you pulled up A LOT of dirt/mycelium along with the mushroom. It's better to use a knife or scissors so you don't damage the mycelial network.

yeah i know they're mycorrhizal, i was dissapointed when i first found that out about them a few months ago. So thats why im growing outdoors and spawning to an area thick with oak roots, as mentioned in the growlog. i pulled up the dirt because i wanted to keep the stem whole so the white area of the stem would be untouched when i cut it to take wedges.
Thanks for the advice though.

I find the orange variety of chanterelles. Not sure if the latin name, but they are very nice and fun to hunt for.

I've only found chanterelles under white pines.

As others have said, look at the gills. Chants have veins/ridges on the underside that fork, not gills.

Here's a picture:
