The dangers of shooting heroin

I heard from a bird that a guy I went to school with got REALLY messed up on heroin.  Only, it's not in the way you think.  Apparently, he went over to his girlfriend's house, shot up heroin and missed his vein.  He accidentally shot it into his muscle.  This made him feel sick, but he didn't go to the doctor for obvious reasons.  Well, apparently shooting the smack into his muscle made his kidneys fail.  :eek:  He had to go to the hospital and get his blood changed or something.  :puke:

I have never done heroin and haven't known many who have shot it up, either.  I guess you could call me a "never willbie".  Is this sort of thing common?  I would image it would happen more often than you hear about.  Do many people's kidneys fail due to shooting smack up in their muscle?

Also, I've heard that if you shoot one air bubble into your veins you will die.  I'm skeptical, but I have no idea either way.

That is the reason you get in trouble for shooting the air pistol at other students in high school Metalwork, if it enters a cut on your body you can die  :eek:

How in the world do people not die from that more often?? It seems like something that could easily happen. Especially if you're already fucked up.

A small air bubble seems like something that could slip into a syringe very easily.

its pretty easy to get all the air out of a syringe. thats why that doesnt happen all that often... i dont know about shotin smack IM instead of iv making your kidney's fail.... maybe that dude was already just in particulary bad health ... or it coulda been bad shit, cut with something nasty

I don't know whether he was healthy or not. He's known for being a really buff weight lifter.

I'm pretty sure the goal of this post was to find out if:

a) Heroin can cause your liver to fail if not injected correctly
B) Air bubbles in your bloodstream can kill you

Not to single out heroin as being particulary dangerous.

I'm genuinely curious. I'm not ragging on heroin. I do think it's a terrible drug, but making that statement was not my intention when I made the decision to make this thread.
