Frustrated at D&D people.
    #4339485 - 06/26/05 05:10 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I haven't played a game in weeks, because I've been losing interest. Real-life has become more important to me, including working on my novel and just pulling myself together to be a good wife, keeping the apartment consistantly tidy and everything, etc.

Okay well, last week I had the gathering, which made me realize how important it is to become the task. I made a committment in my head that I wanted to come home and do things that I need to to, but have been putting off.

Today there was a D&D game scheduled. Because the apartment is a mess since coming back from the gathering and stuff is still not unpacked and we have no groceries in our apartment, I decided that I wanted to pull out and get the stuff done that I know I need to do.

WEll now I am getting a bunch of grief from the D&D people. After I told them I didn't want to play today, I get call after call of them harassing me, asking me to play with them. This upsets me because I feel that they are not respecting my decision. So much has changed for me in the past three weeks, and I have to ride the tide of this change otherwise I will lose it, and drop the ball. I have to carry forward, and this means that I can't play D&D right now.

An arguement could be made that, "Well, you told that them that you'd play already," and yes I did, but that was almost three months ago. Am I supposed to feel the same three months ago that I do today?

Anyway, I'm just annoyed because for once I'm trying to do what's best for ME instead of responding out of mere obligation to other people's agendas, and people won't leave me alone to do this.

/end rant, I'm going to go clean the apartment.

D&D people are notoriously disconnected. You should probably
explain to them your decision in lurid detail. they'll probably get it
after a while.

that's if your D&D people are anything like mine.

What is D&D? Dungons and dragons? A role playing game?

Just explain to them that the current stress in your life has resulted in a Constitution penalty, and the mess in your apartment is lowering your Concentration check.  They'll understand- if you have enough ranks in Persuade.

Drop D&D and find some vampire the masquerade players. I've never played D&D, but vampire can be LOADS of fun. Pluss vampire players seem to be more less nerdy

You should just be straight-forward with them and give them all the reasons you gave us. If they're your friends they'll understand. If not then screw them they aren't worth your time.

It's from a series of booklets about all sorts of funny stuff....they have ones for every topic. In one of them a kid commits suicide and satan drives him through hell.

hahaha that was pretty funny, smacks of the "reefer madness" mentality. I've met many hardcore christians who have the exact same ideas, the best one i've ever heard was that the teenage ninja turtles were evil because ninja training allegedly has occult teachings in it and to let children watch it was to put them on the hell express way. seriously, i had several friends who weren't allowed to watch the show for that reason.

Whoa... I thought D&D was a 70s thing? I would have expected you to be talking about Magic or is that a 90s thing? I'm confused.

...that cartoon was serious?

Yeah, i used to do that a bunch in highschool. I started to steadily going less and less frequently and they got kinda mad. Real life and what not just kinda took over. There's only so long i could play em, but then again it was partly the people too. I just realized they weren't the best group of friends for me for what i was going to head into.. and to where i am now
