heat initiating pinning?

My wookie just went on vacation, and took his whole terrarium with him (so he could keep up with fanning). While there he accidentally left it in the car in the sun. The temp got up to about 110 degrees. However, he noticed that not only where the little guys not damaged... but MANY (I'm talking like 20+) pins formed afer the temp dropped down to about 70 again.

What gives!? I thought for sure his babies were baked.

Perhaps as the mycelium nears death (from heat), some sort of survival hormone is triggered, causing massive amounts of pins to be formed. I think it"s interesting. Hot shocking tek in the works? Im going to play around with it.

I dont Think it would be a hormone thing. My theory is that you cold shocked them. it's not geting them cold, in the cold shock that starts pinning. It's the decrease in temp. a drop from 90 to 70 would work much like a drop from 70 to 50.

Sometimes a high temp can dry out the casing layer which can help initiate pinning.

I would've thought the same thing... except that they're on cakes, not cased....

That brings me to another question I've been meaning to ask...

Is it possible to crumble spent cakes into a nutrative casing and start the growth cycle all over again?
