Once again AOL has shown it's supreme shittiness at the internet. Two weeks ago our account got disabled due to a billing error on their part. We had it reconnected after a phone call, but less than a week later, AOL just stops working. It wasn't anything I did, I was checking out the shroomery and chatting on msn as I always do.

It says the modem has no signal, but why now? It's had a signal forever. I can't do anything to fix it. They suggest running the repair function, but it doesnt work. I can't live without the internet, it's sad I know, but it's my life. Having to wander around home all day without anything to do is killing me.

Get cable, or at least something other than aol.

tell your parents not to be morons... it really isn't hard to use the internet without AOL.


(ps don't mean it as a flame - my parents are quite the morons when it comes to computers as well, but i spent some hours some years back showing them how they could use a regular browser instead of AOL, and still find whatever they wanted - and now whenever i go and visit them, i don't have to deal with shitty AOL anymore! whoo hoo!)

I'm not talking about NOT using AOL, I have it set-up so we can use firefox instead of the terrible AOL software. The problem is the modem has no signal, so I cant get on the internet at all.

is it a winmodem, or an actual modem? either way, try to reinstall drivers - if it is a winmodem this might help. if it is an actual modem (probably isn't if the computer you bought had windows on it when you bought it), the hardware might be fucked... but winmodems aren't real modems, they use software to simulate a lot of the functionality, so reinstalling drivers might help.

It's a BT voyager 105, it comes with the AOL installation pack. I've tried reinstalling it multiple times but it doesnt work.
