Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience.
It isn't more complicated than that.
It is opening to or recieving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is,
without either clinging to it or rejecting it.

That sounds like a great time.

I never got to see Phish on LSD, but had one of my most memorable mushroom trips ever at my second show. It was amazing, watching the crowd turn into one entity. And then eating so much molly I melted.

Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.

If I have, I've forgotten. I apologize for sounding harsh. You guys really do show a lot of love for each other. I was just traumatized by the guys I played in the band with. They were all like "I'm more Deadhead than you because ________". I really do enjoy the music, but I can't help but be reminded of those guys every time the Dead is mentioned, and I apologize again for projecting them onto you guys.

Well, at least you've thought it out. It's cool. Rock on.

I never really gave the dead much of a chance. What should I start with? Maybe this thread is a chance for the pub to increase my love of the dead!

a couple of links from archive.org - you can stream the shows, or download them...

as far as studio albums, i'd personally not bother. of course, folk will say 'american beauty' and 'workingman's dead' (and i'd personally interject 'blues for allah') - but if your going to spend money on dead cds, i'd recommend getting something from the Dicks Picks series, or Stepping Out Europe 72, or Without a Net (basically something live!)

Yeah, most of you guys recommend starting with the live stuff, but I'm just the opposite. See, I like to hear the studio albums first because I want to get a sense of what the songs are supposed to sound like before I get into the live shows with all the improvisation and whatnot. I gotta take it easy............

When I hear the live shows, I try to imagine the mindset of the folks at the show.  You gotta think some of the people in the audience had printed earlier that night.

by becoming so closely associated with a bunch of thin
skinned nitrous junkies, I've grown to resent the band
more and more.
