Re: Locked Thread Policy [Re: newuser1492]
    #4292801 -

This is beside the point I guess, but I always try to leave an explanation of why I lock a thread anyway. Anyone who has sent me PMs about mod actions knows that I always try to explain my motives as thoroughly as possible. It takes a little longer but I like to let people know why I locked/edited/deleted a thread.

That being said...

Locks in GQ and the other drug forums are usually pretty clear cut, I would say if you're going to implement a system that forces mods to leave a reason, that it should be implemented from the pub down.

Please keep this ON TOPIC, this is a discussion about locked thread accountability.

Now back to this, the question has been asked if mods could close a thread and leave a reason but not have it say which mod closed the thread.

How is that for comprimise?

It solves the problem of mods being unfairly attacked for doing their job, it also gives the public the reasons as to why the thread was locked.

no. mods should leave their names. if they are following the rules, then they should have nothing to worry about. if a member harasses them, then ban them.

like I said in the other thread, if you cant stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. if a moderator is so afraid of some 17 year old dork in OTD, then they should not be moderator.

standing by your actions is a good thing.

Accountability IS achieved with the explanation.

Any issue people will have will be with the reason why their thread was locked, NOT by whom as depending on who's online it may as well have been any other mod/admin who closed a thread.

If a thread is closed and it is unproper, then it will be brought up in this forum and the admins can investigate the matter.

Thus ACCOUNTABILITY

You are naive if you think leaving a name to the locked thread will not create a problem, or you would maybe believe this to be geniunely true if you are a total newbie.

Drama; welcome to the Shroomery

But you seem to forget that most of the forums only have like 4 moderators. So, it's not like there is any sort of anonymity that you speak of.

By having moderators put their name next to their actions (like anybody should if they have integrity and are following the rules), this would reduce the amount of flack that everyone would get. The criticism would be direct and to the person in charge. If a moderator cannot speak for their actions, then they should not be moderator.

You seem to think that if you hide moderators' names, that no one will complain - I do not see this.

I just think people in authority should have some balls and own up to their actions. I see no reason for keeping it all a secret.

Feedback:

By giving a reason for the locked thread, you provide an example of what is unacceptable that may not be as clearly apparent from a reading of the rules.

A picture (reason) is worth a thousand words.

PM Material, when your account is unbanned in an few hours you can ask the mod who locked your thread, you cannot make puppets to get around bans though.

No no no. I don't think it will lessen complaints, I think it will bring the complaints to this forum for the Admins to look at.. We are the ones who have to monitor our mods and users.. So if a mod is locking inappropriately the next step is to let us know in this forum.

We can find out what mod is inappropriately closing threads and then deal with them.

Its not a secret who's locking, its that mod #1,#2,#3 of the forum would ALL be taking the same action so to single out one of those as the problem is silly. If the 'reason' is the problem then like I've said you bring it up with the admins in this forum and we can discuss it with the forum mods.
