Foods containing MAOI's?
    #4203186 -

I have been trying to find a pre-trip diet which would contain the highest amount of natural MAOI's and the lwoest possible level of amines.

So far, the only normal food with naturally occuring MAO inhibitors, is nutmeg. Everytime I search for "foods containing MAO inhibitors" i get a thousand websites talking about foods that you shouldnt eat while on Prozac or such.

Does anyone know of any other foods that are high in MAOI levels? and what foods should be avoided, or are counteractive to MAOI's?

I don't think there are any foods that have MAOI's in them. There are foods like cheese, and chocolate, which have a chemical that reacts with MAOI's though.

Yohimbe and Syrian Rue contain MAOi's.

You should avoid anything with tyramine in if you plan on taking MAOi's. This includes meats, cheeses, peanuts, bananas, sour cream, yogurt, soy beans, figs, avocadoes, ginseng, and raisins.
Normally, tyramine is broken down before it can reach the brain, but on an MAOi it doesn't and will cause an increase in blood pressure (which can be life threatening.)

Be careful!

If you want an MAOI you can get passionflower at just about any organic food store or supplement store.

Taking an MAOI with shrooms will double if not triple the trip. It's VERY strong trip... I wouldn't recommend it personally

Are you sure passionflower is an MAOI?

It just says on Erowid that it's a mild sedative.

I think Passionflower is a very weak MAOi, but I'm not sure.

Lemon balm has some MAOI effect and is delicious. Make a tea or mince into salads. Easy to grow. It's fairly sedative too, almost like a low dose benzo. Great for sleep, pairs well with weed and would potentiate shrooms a bit.

Just threw back a gram of cubes + 100+g fresh lemon balm one empty stomach for science. Have done this combo before but long ago and not sure the outcome. I have a pretty good idea what a g of cubes feels like so will compare mind notes.  :superscience:

Tobacco contains harmalas.

I was vaping for a while and it gives me a bit of a rush. but not like tobacco. so i knew there must be something extra in tobacco. googled it and what do you know? harmala alkaloids.
