fine art is dead
    #4197785 -

ive been thinking about this for a while, but a major block was figuring out the line that separated fine art from the other stuff. Its just speficifity- fine art was definately established by the classical period of Greek art. It focuses on the expansion of intellectual pursuits via art in the most skilled ways possible. It was not an exploration of the physicality of the medium, but rather a mastery of the physicality for a pure purpose.

Certain aspects of modern art have merged with craft and utilitarian objects; the general populace no longer cares about fine art. All this time I've been trying to express digital works within the context of their use- but no! I realize that what people want on these utilitarian works ( and these works are purely for people, they are not fine art ) is a complete denial of the actual object, in favor of appreciating the aesthetics of the actual artwork. How silly of me. In a way, it's not utilitarian, and it's just an artist playing around.

Humph!

please don't move this to MAL, i don't really mind if I don't get replies

When I was taken by surprise!
By a pair of Cube-ee Psi's!
In the merry merry month of May!

Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.
