red rocks, big summer classic, afterparty etc?

This probably fits better under the gathering and travel section but with all cool people I see around the pub I figure there is a better chance of a good answer here. I will be attending the Big summer classic at red rocks this summer and I had a few questions for people who have been to a show at red rocks in the last couple of years. Is there a lot scene at Red Rocks or what? Me and my friends will be taking the van to red rocks from out of state and want to know if we need to make plans for a hotel or if, since it is a 2 day event, we can just stay up and party all night outside the rocks ?

Thanks shroomery, btw who all is planning on attending?

There is a great lot scene but only during the day and then for a little while after the show until they start kicking you out. Camping is not allowed in the Red Rocks lot but there is lots of camping nearby (maybe not quite in walking distance though). Chief Hosa used to be THE PLACE for concert-goers to camp. We're talking 24 hour a day non-stop shakedown. Unfortunately the city of Denver decided to shut down Hosa this year so now there will be a lot of people looking for a different, centralized place to camp. You could always do the hotel thing but camping in Colorado in the summer can be very pleasant (weather was perfect when I did it).

You should go. It's amazingly beautiful and you can just feel Earth's energy pouring out of the huge slabs of ancient rock that surround you.


Red Rocks has undergone a few face lifts since this pic was taken.


Notice the lights of Denver off in the distance.

It's a possibilty but the Red Rocks shows look very tempting, I really want to get out there this summer. It might be out of my price range though, if it is Milwuakee will be my next choice.

i didn't know the dates conflicted ... but for $10 i think that's more than worth it to see ymsb, new monsoon, keller, sci, spearhead, and umphrey's

Holy crap! I can't believe tickets are so cheap.

I don't think the dates conflict but I'm not looking to spend alot of time on the road this summer so it's either one or the other.

no, you dont purchase an actual ticket for the show because all this music is on free stages. it's part of the summerfest admission ... basically a huge music and beer drinking festival on our lakefront
