Thoughts on the double tub?
    #4127821 -

Who uses/ has used the double tub design and had good results? I like the idea of just sitting on tubs of mushies and not having to mess w/them too much but it seems almost too good to be true. Is it better to use a cool mist humidifier or something like that? What have your results been?

from what i have seen single tubs with tall sides work just as well like 30gal tubs and 18 gall tubs

I have a small tub, and somehow i have problems with CO2 levels.
Check her for details:
My Growlog

Im planning on putting more holes in the sides, cause i think the small tub builds up too much CO2, cause per square meter the is more spawn than in a big tub.
Im planning on putting bigger holes in the sides, and not tucking the polyfill in too much.(as well as maybe two more)
Just try and tweak till it works. Ive seen great results with it posted here.

Tub in tub worked awesome for my first grow. Just keep a blanket on it. And make sure to check your jars daily for contam so you dont risk contaming the others. cononizing jars at room temp must be slow as hell.

Tub in tub is another thing, its an incubator. Where a double tub is a fruiting chamber...

And yes both a double tub and a single tub work.
You could ad aan airpump for fresh air circulation or put a ventilator close to your tub.

Think if you have a double tub, NOT TiT, that it would help alot to add a cool mist humidifier? I have the tendency to overkill, but is there really such a thing when it comes to air exchange...?

Yeah.. I believe that's one of the points of a good pinning strategy.
The others I believe are lower temps and lower humidity.

the porpose of a double tub is so you dont have to worry about air exchange.

No you want high RH (humidity) for pinning, High airexchange & you add some light.

let me help you finish that.
95-100% humidity for pinning, 85-90% for fruiting
76-79F to initiate pinning.

No overkill in airexchange, but an airpump will do, you can use a cool mist also.
But with these machines the original double tub is gone. That is a neglect tek.

Put some holes in teh sides, stuff with polyfill, add substrate on the bottom and off you go.

You can also fan manually.

Here my mono tub.... No holes actually, just waved the lid around a couple of times a day. Also not 100% neglect.

2 square feet, and a kilo wet, 90 grams dry if I remember well...

I was already finished and I dont need your *help* really. 76-79 are temps seldom reached in my fruiting chamber.

Iwill help YOU finish, you forgot the light cycle dude...

there is no reason for machines...I've tried machines(air pumps etc)...double tubs not only keep lots of fresh air in the fruiting chamber but they block out unwanted spores...they just don't contam...ever ime

heres some of my tubs

above are burma this was my first attempt at the double tub...creepers with no casing layer(pics are a lil dark so sorry bout that)

a lot of the creeper caps were bigger than cd's...and I cloned the biggest...I've tried a lot of shit and imo nothing grows healhier mushrooms than the double tub. even if I had $1,000,000 to spend on this hobby I would still use it :P

Amen to that Iamthewalrus. I use single tub tek for large containers and double tub tek for slightly small containers. My PR was grown in a single large tub and they came out awesome. I could have had a better pin set, but that fault lies in my casing technique. Perhaps next time I'll skip a casing layer and see how she comes out.

Here are some pics.

The top is simply cut out and I have some plastic taped there for light. During the spawning phase I simply cover it and put into a dark place.

The average PR in here is 10 inches and caps are about 3-4 inches.

Another view of my single tub.

My first flush was 4.7 ounces dry. The second flush is still coming so I can't comment on them just yet.

I have also tried the Martha and TiT and nothing compares to the ease and simplicity of the Single/Double Tub teks. It is so easy. I don't know why anyone would waste time doing anything else. I guess it's all about preference.

Here are some of my Double Tub pics that I grew EQ on:

Like I said, I'm still trying to perfect my casing layer. This one did not want to pin in that area. It was most likely due to an uneven substrate when I spawned. Newbie mistake of course.

Despite the mistakes I made with the bulk substrate level on the EQ, I still pulled in 2-3 dry ounces per flush. I did no misting and no manually fanning. I put them in my bathtub, left the blinds cracked for light, put a small fan in the room for air circulation, and walked away. These bad boys take care of themselves.

If you want to spend the time and money setting up a Martha, more power to you. Some people enjoy the time and effort it takes to build something that is their own. Me personally, I want simplicity, ease, peace of mind, and carefree.

Well anyway, those are my thoughts on the Double/Single Tub tek.

augustin.. how deep is your substrate in those small DT's?? I'm currently doing 2 DT's. Just started fruiting cycle about 5 days ago.

My substrate ranges from 3-4 inches, not including the casing layer. Like I said, I made the newbie mistake of having an uneven substrate, so it varies from container to container.

How about yours Sam?

I followed Eatu's container instructions fairly closely. The holes were added at about 5 in up. I wanted to have room for 4in > Substrate & 1/2in - 3/4in > substrate. Currently I have a 4 in substrate in my first bin of H-doo/straw/verm/coir, and a large bin w/ 2x smaller bins inside. 4 1/2 LBS or so in each tray, 4 1/2 in deep or so... 1/2 in casing.

They're going VERY nicely.

Sounds good Sam. Are you using a fan in the room for air circulation or just letting the stagnant air in the room do it's job?
