What makes a home into a home???

Any ideas???

Is it the life inside it?

Can a house be a home if no one lives there?

What is it that makes people?s homes different?

How do we choose where our home is?

how much influence does one?s upbringing have upon how they choose to make their new home? Do we try to emulate the home we were raised in, and what does that entail?>

how do other people factor into our ?perfect? home?

Isn?t it possible to live alone and be happy? Is the perfect home even attainable?

do we call the places to store our stuff and sleep, our "home" out of habit? or convenience?



Pleas expand on any ideas you find interesting, or bring up any new thoughts you might have. Let the questions unfold.....

Well emptywisdom, What the shit does that mean?

Since the heart in my chest is pumping blood right now, and i am sitting in this computer lab, does that make this computer lab my home?

well my wife and i move all the time

from this experience, home is where annie is. doesnt matter where im at, or how nice the place is, if she aint there it just dont feel right.

A house is only a home when you have 3 Porshes, 2 Ferraris (sp?), $250,000+ in your bedroom closet wall safe, 4 kilos of high grade cocaine, and many many many strippers that aren't your race.

Watch the movie "Choices" by Three 6 Mafia, then "Choices 2" when it comes out, which should be soon... :smile:

To be quite honest with you I have thought about the phrase quite a lot. I was simply trying to make the point that you should expand upon your ideas. "home is where the heart is" is just a cliche phrase to describe an idea that most people are too lazy too really explore.

Unfortunately I am currently writing a paper about what "home" is, and I figured that some of the shroomery members may have an interesting perspective the subject.

Maybe I was wrong. I guess I should have said something about pot or mushrooms so I you could focus you attentions for more than 2 seconds.

man, you could right a whole paper about that phrase alone. it's cliche because it's says alot, and therefor it's used alot, and imo, it says exactly what you are asking. home does not need to be a house or any place you reside, it is simply, like the cliche' phrase says, where your heart is, and If i could beg a little depth out of you, I don't mean the muscle in your chest. I Personally, my home is the road, so take that as you will, it's not any one place, and it's not where I sleep at night. Home is the domain you hold dear to your soul.

I think this nails it, even though the quote is about homeless people. Let's say you are at college out of state. At the end of the year you go home. Where is home? Where you live. Maybe where you grew up. Home is memories of family, friends, your favorite bar, the street where you first rear-ended someone. It can be your house, your street, your neighborhood, your whole damn city.

I wish you would do my HW, but fear not, I have already written the essay, I am simply revising it for the final draft, and the questions I originally posted are all ideas that came out of my head and I explored in my paper.

I just thought that having a discussion about this might give me some new ideas to explore further, I am kind of burnt out on the subject :frown:

and could you try to not get agro if you have a hard time finding someone who wants to wright your paper for you? Please take the response you get and be thankfull for them rather than criticsizeing the ones that you don't like.

Does anyone out there have any thoughts about how one's upbringing factors into their choices of what a home is?

IMO it has a pretty significant, yet varied, effect.

home is the place where one feels most comfortable, where everything feels right. this may not be a residence. but i believe that it exists for everyone.
