Looks like the millet on the bottom exploded. Your water content was off and not uniform through the jar. Try steeping for an hour, then load into jars 24 hours later without adding water. Good Luck...

BTW, I never could get millet to work, no matter what I tried

wrong millet, next time buy it at pet shop, the millet you buy at heath food store is good to prepare pf jars but not for quarts/shaked jars...you need the hulls!
