malt extract?

I am going to try the liquid culture. Just wondering where i could get the powdered malt extract. i Never even heard of it. Also is there a self life once i put it into the fridge?

Health food shops or in the organic section in supermarkets. It is used for brewing beer so will be in homebrew shops.

start by looking for the syrup in your grocery stores, one local to me carries it
if not you can get it in syrup or powder form from most home brewers supply places

shelf life, try using it within 2 months, it may last longer but unrefridgerated
I'd say it a 1 month shelf life.

I've got 2 karo solutions, PR and GT, that I've had at room temp for 3 months....  8 qts of rye just finished colonizing last night after 6 days from these LC's :wink:

edit: just make sure you're clean, and you shouldn't get contams.  I just keep mine somewhere around my constantly running hepa filter (I'm a heavy smoker, I gotta have something to keep my room from stinkin up lol)

speaking of malt, will this work. I used to have lighter malt but this is all i could get my hands on

do you get any airexchange in you lc? i use tyvek for my lids whats wrong with that?

I went to the store and asked for powdered malt extract, they gave me ovaltine malt powder, will this work for the liquid culture?

whats tyrek?

Tyvek is a spunbond plastic, it doesnt soak anything up, it's waterproof
